Amanda Brewster, LMT Founder

A graduate of The Swedish Institute and St Olaf College with a history as a freelance dancer-turned-choreographer, in NYC, Amanda brings to the table nearly 20 years of hands-on experience in the field of massage and bodywork including several years working alongside a team of physical therapists and chiropractors. This complimentary combination of disciplines has given Amanda a particular sensitivity to the rigors and delicacy of working with and around injuries to facilitate the healing process and/or to reduce risk factors that could contribute to injury.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist, Amanda has incorporated the practical and personal understanding of how the body functions  to develop a targeted approach to handling body aches and pains. Certified in Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT), Level 1 and influenced by the work of Howard Mermelstein’s Corrective Postural Massage, her work employs classic techniques of Swedish, Sports, Medical, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release and her own dynamic pin and stretch massage techniques to encourage the joints of the body to rest in their proper position. This gives the muscles an opportunity to re-pattern in a functional way if given the signals to do so.

Desiring to give a more comprehensive treatment session to her clients and turn the “IF” into a “WHEN given the signals…” Amanda began exploring coaching/training and recently acquired the NSCA’s credential of being a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist ® (CSCS ®)*. Using the scientific foundations of biomechanics and sport science, she is building “return to play” programs to help her clients bridge the gap between the end of physical therapy and getting fully prepared to get back into their game be it relearning how a shoulder moves after an episode of frozen shoulder, a soccer player cleared to start training again after an ankle sprain or a dancer whose hips need to find functional movement so she can dance for years to come.

By combining her signature massage techniques with her unique movement assessments and personalized training programs, Amanda creates a session where her clients are enabled to feel more at home in their bodies as they begin to maximize the potential of their personal movement.
